Community Involvement
In 1995, the James Medina Scholarship was established to assist Hispanic high school students with the burden of post high school education costs. The scholarship is offered to deserving Hillsborough County Hispanic students and to students from Miami South West High School in Miami Florida. The students must have a 3.0 GPA with an emphasis on athletics and or theatre arts. The scholarship is awarded annually to deserving students whom exhibit academic, community and leadership qualities. Since 1995, Mr. Medina has committed $50,000 to this scholarship.
Mr. Medina established the James Medina Scholarship in memory of his brother, James. James Medina was an actor that was featured in many major movies and television shows during his career. He appeared in the motion pictures White Squall, Mambo Kings, Awakenings and Havana. Jimmy also did several independent films such as Class of 1999, Two Rivers and Red Surf. His television credits include L.A. Law, Quantum Leap, Macgyver and many others.
